I’m one of those people that’s quite particular when it comes to drinks I do and don’t like. Take coffee for example – hate the stuff, similarly to tea, never enjoyed it and don’t think I ever will! Hot chocolate (vegan of course) I can get on board with when it’s very cold, or I am in need of some comfort.
During December I do sometimes feel left out with all the ‘Hot Christmas Drinks’ & “mulled” beverages doing the rounds. There’s mulled wines, ciders and also the hot toddy, and it’s pretty tough to know whether things are definitely vegan… A lot of wines and ciders aren’t thanks to the filtration process, and Hot Toddy’s often include honey – so it’s a minefield out there!
To counteract my woe at not being able to easily have something mulled at the pub, I found a super simple recipe for a homemade ‘Warm Apple Cider’ which I had a go making last night, with some Sainsbury’s French Brandy (that I knew was Vegan thanks to Barnivore). All it needed was a few basic ingredients I picked up from my local Sainsbury’s, and a blender (or juicer)!
To make it you’ll need: sweet apples, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and brandy. And it’s essentially a case of mixing them all together in a blender. Start with the apples first until they’re as smooth as you want, add a pinch of Cinnamon and Nutmeg (or more, if you fancy), and a dash of Brandy for that extra warmth. Heat your glass in the microwave and you’re good to go!
It was such a simple recipe to follow and has inspired me to try and create some more of my own hot Christmas drinks when I’m back home in Brighton with my family over the Christmas break!
The only thing I will say with this recipe is that in hindsight my teeny tiny blender probably wasn’t the best for this as it only took one apple per go (and I ended up needing 4 to fill my glass). Next time I think we’re gunna need a bigger blender…
What are your favourite easy peasy ‘Winter Warmers’ for me to try out next? I think I’m going to get creative when I’m back in Sussex staying with my mum and create some warm fruity (alcoholic) cocktails… Which I will be sure to document on my instagram story – find me at @luisachristie (and for those of you that are my mum’s biggest fans from previous insta stories, she’ll be featuring too!)

Delicious !

No worries! Thanks so much for checking it out. Let me know if you have a go making it 🙂
