Recently I was sent some pictures & press release for the canal-side venue: Number 90 Bar & Kitchen – who are having a second birthday party; ‘The Birthday Weekender’ from Thurs 17th – Sunday 20th March and it sounds like it will be incredibly fun, I had to tell you about it in advance! Last years birthday party looked absolutely amazing, so if you’re not at least intrigued by that first picture, then frankly we can’t be friends… Humans dressed as majestic unicorns, I mean what more could you ask for?
Quick side note: I just have to say, one of my favourite things about blogging is being invited to fun looking events, that I might not have heard of has it not been for an email from the PR or an invite from my blogging partner in crime, Lissa! (Infact a lot of the initial inspiration for me to start a blog was due to Lissa inviting me as her +1 to lots of cool pop ups, events and press preview evenings!)
There are several other pulls for me about this ‘Birthday Weekender’ (besides the human unicorn photo):
What else can you expect from the weekend?
Friday: Music from legendary record label Rough Trade and Late Night Tales compilations will provide the soundtrack whilst guests battle a giant birthday piñata!
Saturday: Phonica Records will be spinning vinyls with SlothBoogie, whilst guest visit the ‘Starlight Boutique glitter camp‘ (did someone say glitter?) & take part in a huge limbo competition!
Sunday: To wind down on Sunday, guests chill out, and enjoy a roast, whilst listening to a mixture of funk, soul & reggae from Russ Ryan and DJ Scratchy. There’ll also be a retro record stand selling vinyls for some ‘Birthday Weekender’ memorabilia!
The purpose of this event (besides being a fabulous four day birthday party) is also to thank the community that has helped Number 90 become sucks a success – their way of celebrating & thanking the creative and supportive hub that’s been created in this canal-side venue.
The weekend does fall over some St Paddy’s day celebrations, but as someone who doesn’t like Guinness and is a sucker for colourful & sparkly looking events – this is much more my kind of thing! And besides, why not do both if you’re able to? Life’s too short ‘ey!
If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, & you can get to East London – this will be right up your street. With DJs, bands, performers, live art installations, food stalls and innovative cocktails! It’s completely free and everyone’s invited! Check out the event on Facebook for further info & updates!
