A few weeks ago I went to POP Picturehouse’s ‘Grease’ Themed Night at Hard Rock Cafe on Park Lane with the usual suspects – Lissa (Girl At The Rock Show), Lauren (Sahara Splash) and another friend called Jasmine!
Having been a long time Grease fan (I played Doody, in year 7 in a secondary school production) and the fact I had never visited any of the Hard Rock Cafe locations before, I was very excited about heading down!
The mastermind behind the event is a lovely lady called Hope. I hadn’t actually realised, but after reading Lissa’s blog I found out that Hope gave up her day job for this venture! Very brave, but a great success I think – the evening was a lot of fun! The picture above is of all of us looking incredibly sassy with some of Hard Rock’s epic guitars!
In exchange for blogging about the event, Hope very kindly upgraded my ticket from General Admission to the VIP experience which meant I was able to get my hair and makeup done by the fabulous Ross Kershaw, who was working alongside Billie Eva Makeup!
The night was held in the basement of the bar and the main event was the film playing on a big screen whilst key characters in full costume acted out scenes and dance routines!
Not everyone attending was dressed up, as it wasn’t compulsory, however a lot of people did channel their inner Pink Lady/T-Bird! I didn’t go all out (as I had to go straight from work), but my outfit hinted at “bad Sandy”. I wore an off the shoulder black top, with a black faux leather jacket on top, whilst Lissa looked cute wearing all black with an awesome pale pink studded leather jacket on top, and Lauren had a lovely white dress on, very “good Sandy” vibes!
On arrival I was given a Rydell High Yearbook which I had signed by the cast throughout the evening. Sandy, Rizzo, Danny & Kenickie didn’t break character once and did a great job dancing, miming and ensuring everyone had a great evening. There was also photo booth for silly pictures with friends and props (check out all the pictures on POP Picturehouse’s Facebook) – because who doesn’t love a photo booth sesh?
Overall the evening was a perfect mixture of themed fun, cocktails, movie nibbles (such as pop corn and nachos), and singing along. One of those chilled no pressure kind of evenings where you can just have fun and don’t have to think too much about what you’re doing – which is really nice sometimes!
You might have realised from some of my previous posts (such as Ice Bar Rocks & ABQ London) I am a sucker for an “immersive experience” event, and this one was up there as one of the best I’ve been to!
The next Pop Picture House event is Monday 22nd February and is Spice Girls themed… Yes, you read that right. Hope has organised for the Spice World movie to be screened on Monday 22nd February. So for cheaper than going to the cinema in central London, you can have a fun evening, watching a fun film at the legendary Hard Rock Cafe on Park Lane! You can sing along, drink cocktails, eat snack and get dressed up as your fave Spice Girl… What more could you ask for? Tickets are only £12.50 (+ 75p booking fee) and you can get them HERE!
If you get a ticket, which Spice Girl will you be? I think it’s time for me to start planning an outfit… Not sure I have anything appropriate, you reckon I can make up my own Spice Girl for the occassion? I’m thinking Purple Spice perhaps?
