Hellooo, and welcome to a new format for 2016 that will show it’s face now & again: “Life Lately” – the idea is that I can reflect on fun stuff that I’ve been up to, that don’t individually need entire blog posts, but people on the internet still might like to read about… So, here we are! Would love some feedback of what you think – let me know in the comments 🙂
In January I got up to quite a lot (with a couple of blogs still in progress)… But I wanted to tell you guys about a few cool places I went to that I’m not going to write a whole post about.
After a very fun few hours at the Ice Bar for #BloggersBelowZero, Lauren (of Blonde Vision) arranged for us to have a private area at Dirty Martini on Hanover Square. It was a lovely chance to visit another bar in central London, and socialise (/drink) some more! Being a Monday night (I know, I know – v. naughty of me drinking on a school night!) the bar was quite quiet, so ordering was speedy & the staff were efficient and made delicious cocktails! I went for a Passion Fruit Martini (Beefeater Gin shaken with Passoa, fresh passion fruit and passion fruit juice) which was an absolute dream.
I also spent the evening chatting to a couple of other lovely bloggers: Fran, Amber May & Laura in particular (who you can see in one of the pictures below) because we spent a lot of time at the bar deciding on/drinking lots of cocktails! I hope I’ll have a chance to see again soon! But in the meantime make sure you click on their names to see what they’re up to! <3
I also want to point out the cool art in Dirty Martini which you could see on the stair case as you arrived and downstairs in the bar. I absolutely loved the images – so interesting and colourful!
After Polyphonic Playground I tagged along with a couple of lovely girls I befriended there and we went to a quirky little place called Scooter Caffè for a drink! I had to mention this place, because I was quite delighted to see that they had a resident cat (!!) who was sat in the window looking very regal – how cute is it’s lil nose?
The place itself is quite cute, almost seems like someone’s junk room with a whole mish mash of furniture – during the day time you’ll catch people working on their laptops (and drinking the place out of hot chocolate), and in the evening it turns into a quiet little bar, with dim lighting – quite a kooky option for a casual first date actually!
Super Lovers @ Vinyl Bar
One weekend after heading out for a bite to eat to bunnychow (blog coming soon!) I went to Vinyl Bar, which is just off Oxford Street (Tottenham Court Road End) where my friend Cate Blanchard was DJing for a night called Super Lovers! The bar is in a basement, and it’s quite small, but the perfect place to drink a few of cocktails you can order over the mini motor car fronted bar (I wish I got a photo), sit on some really comfy chairs (that look like they were taken from a retro car straight out of the 60’s) & listen to music.
Cate assures me that the genre she plays is “Indie and all sorts”, but the only song I can remember singing along to is “Somebody To Love” by Boogie Pimps (and I wasn’t even drunk!)… But anyway, Cate is a great DJ and the bar is really cute so get your butt down there sometime. I also forgot to say that the bar has a very snazzy light up ceiling that changes colours in time with the music… So if you’re sold on the venue & choice of music (honestly there is a more eclectic mix than just Boogie Pimps) – get down to Super Lovers, which is on every Friday, and totally free before 10pm!
Artist Residence Hotel, Pimlico
In the depths of Pimlico (well, a 5 minute walk from Victoria Station) there’s an absolutely lovely Boutique hotel called Artist Residence owned by the sister of my friend Hannah. Last year Hannah had birthday drinks in the bar/function room downstairs, so I was really pleased to be visiting again for her birthday this year. One of the owners is really into his art, and you can tell with all the interesting, contemporary art all over the walls! I particularly liked the big ‘LOVE’ sign hung above the doorway as you go down to the bar area, and the post box in the wall painted tradition post box red. Very cute!
They have a lovely cocktail menu and the staff are incredibly helpful & friendly, to the point I was actually quite taken back by how accommodating they were. There were some nibbles provided but nothing Vegan, so I was brought my very own little bowl of Vegan risotto so I didn’t go hungry – and it was really good! The waitress was so sweet, I sort of wanted her to be my friend <3
As a birthday treat Hannah stays in the “Grand Suite” and I was lucky enough to have a little nose around, and it really was grand, but without being pretentious. There’s a very deep bath in the bathroom “area” of the room as well as a small shower room & private bathroom. The walls were covered with mirrors and art work and the whole feel of the place is really modern, without being over the top. Hopefully I’ll get the chance to visit again and maybe even stay sometime! I think the website describes it perfectly as: “eclectic luxury with a homely charm”.
Thanks for reading about my ‘Life Lately’ and I hope it’s been interesting! You’ll see more of these pop up now and again, but for now it’s bed time!
