Magical Lantern Festival | #ChineseNewYear

I would just like to take this moment to warn you in advance that this Magical Lantern Festival blog is quite picture heavy! Rather than ramble too much (as I like to do) about how majestic it is, I thought it was better to show you.

'Love' lights up London for the Magical Lantern Festival @ Chiswick House & Gardens

Some of you might remember my Lumiere London post a little while ago and how beautiful London looked lit up with different art installations. Well, thanks to Chinese New Year celebrations, there’s a similar event happening right now at Chiswick House & Gardens for Year of the Monkey’ called Magical Lantern Festival! Now, it’s not the easiest place to get to, but I assure you it’s definitely worth taking a trip to see some of the beautiful light up installations.

The festival is premiering in the stunning gardens at Chiswick House. I arrived during the day time as I was there to help out a friend with some customer service on site, but even then it looked incredibly colourful… However, I totally wasn’t prepared for how it would when it got darker. The 65 acres are covered with 52 illuminated themed tableaux, using over 58,000 bulbs.

Due to the fact I was helping out, I didn’t get the chance to see the whole festival, but I’m looking forward to taking my lovely little mum at the end of the month… I know there is a lot more to admire, and many more pictures to be taken!

If you’re thinking about going, make sure you wear comfy “sensible” shoes and wrap up warm. It was absolutely freezing when I was there and although there’s Chiswick House Cafe half way round & stalls selling warm food & drink at the start & end of the walk, it’s probably going to be a lot less magical if you can’t feel your nose, fingers or toes! Lots of people skipped out on the last bit of the walk because it was just *that* cold. There is also a bar area at the end to warm up in, with cool lit up telephone boxes!

…And now it’s picture time! (Opening dates/cost/location details are at the end of the post!)
